‘Can’t afford to lose’ – Pundit builds up importance of Manchester United, Manchester City clash

Dietmar Hamann has put pressure on Manchester United ahead of Sunday’s derby against Manchester City.

There is currently an eight-point gap between the two clubs, and it is Pep Guardiola’s City that are leading the charge.

The team are unbeaten in the Premier League, but they left it late in recent victories over Huddersfield Town, Southampton and West Ham United.

On Wednesday, the team suffered their first loss of the season in all competitions in the form of a 2-1 loss to Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League.

As for United, Jose Mourinho’s side are on a four-game winning run, and one of those victories came against Arsenal at the Emirates.

Despite the Gunners’ attacking threat, it was the Red Devils who earned a 3-1 triumph.

Hamann, who spent three years playing for City, believes that United’s title hopes could be severely hampered if they do not pick up all three points at the weekend.

The former midfielder told Sky Sports:

“It’s probably a game United can’t afford to lose because otherwise the gap might become too big with the way City is going at the moment. I think it’s very hard to make up five or six points, let alone nine or 10.”
