Benitez keen on summer deal at Newcastle United as club look to strengthen – Report

Newcastle fans here in the Tavern are still purring after the weekend’s victory over Manchester United, as they uncovered a new star at St James’ Park.

Indeed, the Magpies enjoyed one of their most impressive performances so far this season, as Matt Ritchie’s second-half strike was enough to secure Rafa Benitez’s side a vital three points. And, this wouldn’t have been made possible if it wasn’t for the heroics of debutant Martin Dubravka, after the Slovakian delivered a performance from right out of the top draw. Of course, a goalkeeping masterclass that clearly didn’t go unnoticed by the club, as according to reports in the Mirror, Newcastle United are keen to make loanee Martin Dubravka’s transfer permanent.

Indeed, the Magpies will pay up to £5.2 million to make the ‘keeper their player. This, after the goalkeeper was landed on a loan fee that will rise to £1.2 million once he’s made six appearances for the club, with a permanent deal being triggered should they decide to fork out another £4 million in the summer.

The Slovakian made an immediate impact in his first appearance for the club against Manchester United, a player who looks to have all the makings of a very established ‘keeper with some accomplished shot-stopping and ball-playing abilities. Indeed, if his debut performance was anything to go by then the Magpies shouldn’t hesitate to cough up the remaining amount of money, in a goalkeeping department that’s been a problematic area for the Magpies.

Landlord’s Verdict:

The Slovakian looks to be a promising prospect for Newcastle United, as a bargain buy could be in the offing come summer time. Indeed, a huge turn in the right direction for the Magpies, with the loanee possibly proving to be the final piece to ensure survival.
